Men's Soccer student-athlete Mitchell Long named 41st Academic All-American® in school history
SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran junior Mitchell Long became the 41st Academic All-American® in school history when he was named Tuesday to the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Men's Soccer Team.
Long was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Third Team. He was one of 12 student-athletes on the Academic All-America® Team to have a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Long (Round Rock/Round Rock) is the second Academic All-America® selection in TLU Men's Soccer History. Long joins two-time Academic All-America® honoree David Stahl as TLU Men's Soccer Academic All-Americans®.
Long is the 14th Academic All-America® honoree for TLU Athletics in the last five years.
An exercise science major, Long is a three-year letterman on the TLU Men's Soccer Team.
This year, Long helped the Bulldogs to their first-ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and to their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
The Bulldogs won a school-record 15 matches. TLU went 15-6 overall and 7-2 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs won the SCAC Championship with a 2-0 semifinal victory over tournament host Trinity and a 3-1 championship final win over Colorado College.
The Bulldogs played in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship and fell in the first round to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) by a score of 2-0.
Long played in 16 matches and started 15 before missing the last five matches due to illness.
As a defender, Long had three assists and led a TLU defensive effort that finished the year with seven total shutouts.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
Twenty-five of the 66 student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men's and Women's soccer teams boast 4.0 GPAs with 14 of those 25 coming on the women's side.
The first teams for both the men and women both boast 3.97 team GPAs with the full women's team at 3.96 and the men's at 3.93.
