Cody O'Brien Named SCAC Character & Community Male Student Athlete of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Cody O'Brien, a freshman golfer on the Texas Lutheran men's golf team, has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning with Jan. 29.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

O'Brien has quickly adjusted to college on the course, earning a top 15 finish in his final fall tournament ahead of his first spring season as a Bulldog. The Houston native finished tied for 15th in the Coastal Collegiate Classic in October.

Off the course, O'Brien has submerged himself in a Texas Lutheran culture predicated in service. As a first semester freshman, O'Brien is already a SAAC rep for the men's golf program.

Public servitude is not new to O'Brien, who has given back to the community whenever possible dating back to high school.

O'Brien has done work at a number of food pantries in the Houston area loading cars with food donations while also working at homeless shelters, giving out food and washing clothes for them.

Cody O'Brien's collegiate career is just beginning on and off the course as he continues to improve as a collegiate golfer as well as finding different opportunities to be involved on campus and in the wider Seguin community.
