Wills Finishes Day One in Third, Bulldogs in Sixth Place at SCAC Championships

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's golf team registered a two-round score of 46-over par 622 (308-314) to sit in sixth place after day one of the 2023 SCAC Championships at Riverhill Country Club. Sophomore Tobey Wills (Richmond/Foster) led a back-nine charge Monday evening with three birdies and is tied for third in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 2-over-par 146 (73-73) entering Tuesday's final round.

The SCAC Championship features two nationally ranked teams in the Bushnell/Golfweek D-III Coaches Poll and four teams ranked in the latest NCAA Division-III regional rankings, two of which are within two strokes of the lead. St. Thomas (+14), who is not ranked in either poll, holds a one stroke lead over 16th-ranked Trinity (+15) and a two stroke lead over regionally ranked Schreiner (+16). 25th-ranked Dallas is in fifth place while regionally ranked Southwestern, who is receiving votes in the latest coaches poll, is in fourth place.

Two Texas Lutheran players are in the top 25 following Monday's opening two rounds. Wills is tied for third, six strokes behind 36-hole leader, Trinity's Daniel Nunez (-4, 140). Senior Chandler Otto (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) is tied for 21st with a 36-hole score of 156 (+12).

Caleb Kruse (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg), who finished round one tied for 16th, finished the day 16-over par to sit in 29th place.

The SCAC Championship concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, April 18. Texas Lutheran will be paired with Dallas and Centenary for Tuesday's final round with tee times beginning at 8:45 AM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
