Wills Named SCAC Freshman of the Year

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its Men's Golf postseason awards on Wednesday and Texas Lutheran men's golfer Tobey Wills (Richmond/Foster) was named the SCAC Freshman of the Year, the league announced.

Wills was one of the SCAC's top golfers all season. The Richmond, Texas, product finished second on the team with a stroke average of 74.46 - ranking 81st in NCAA Division-III - and four top fifteen finishes.

At the SCAC Men's Golf Championships, Wills went on a record-setting run to tie for first place before falling on the third playoff hole. Wills paced Texas Lutheran across all three rounds finishing with a final score of 212, four-under par. The 54-hole score of 212 is the third-lowest all-time at the SCAC Championships and only second to Colin Uecker's 211 in 2019 in TLU Men's Golf history since joining the SCAC. Wills shot the low-round of 66 in round three on Tuesday - the lowest third round score in SCAC history. The three-hole playoff is also the longest in SCAC Championship history.

Wills earned SCAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors earlier this season for his sixth-place finish in the UMHB Invitational.

An All-SCAC First Team honoree, Wills is the fourth Texas Lutheran men's golfer to earn Freshman of the Year honors, following in the footsteps of Colin Uecker (2016) as well as current teammates Matthew McArthur (2018) and Chase Maus (2019).
