Wills Runner-Up after Record Setting Day, Bulldogs Finish Third at SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas -- Following 54 holes at the SCAC Championships, the Texas Lutheran men's golf team finished third at the SCAC Championships at the par-72 Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

The Bulldogs placed a pair of golfers on the all-tournament team as freshman Tobey Wills (Richmond/Foster) finished tied for first before falling on the third playoff hole to medalist Christian Rodriguez of Southwestern. Chase Maus (Manor/Manor) was also named to the All-Tournament team as an honorable mention finishing tied for 15th. Texas Lutheran shot the low round of Tuesday of 293. Texas Lutheran would finish with a final score of 901 with Southwestern winning the tournament with an 889 score.

Wills (-4, 2nd) paced the Bulldogs across all three rounds, posting a 212 4-under-par to finish tied for first before falling in the playoff. The 54-hole score of 212 is the third-lowest all-time at the SCAC Championships and only second to Colin Uecker's 211 in 2019 in TLU Men's Golf history since joining the SCAC. Wills shot the low-round of 66 in round three on Tuesday - the lowest third round score in SCAC history. The three-hole playoff is also the longest in SCAC Championship history.

Maus (+13, T-15) posted a 2-over-72 on Tuesday to jump six spots on the leaderboard to join Wills in the top fifteen finishing the tournament 13-over-par.

Matthew McArthur (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) finished in a tie for 20th after firing a 234 (+18) for the Bulldogs over the two-day championship.

Cameron Carter (+19, T-23) (Rock Springs, Wyo./Kelly Walsh) closed his tournament with an 11-over 83 to finish tied for 23rd. Chandler Otto (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) and Caleb Kruse would have their best rounds of the tournament on Tuesday. Otto would sign for 2-over 74 to rise five spots to finish tied for 28th with a 54-hole score of 240. Kruse shot a 7-over 79 in his final round to rise three spots and finish 36th with a final tally of 250.
