TLU's Haley leads by four, Bulldogs trail by two with round to play at SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas -- At the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship, Texas Lutheran senior Nathan Haley (Richmond/Foster) is the two-round leader and has the Bulldogs in the hunt for a team championship.
 
TLU trails Trinity by just two shots, 579 to 581, in the race for the men's team championship.
 
The Bulldogs posted a 293 and a 288 in the two rounds Monday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
 
Trinity led by two shots after the first round with a 291. The Tigers joined TLU with a 288 in the second round.
 
In the race for the individual title, Haley followed up a first-round score of 4-under 68 with a 2-under 70. Haley's two-round total is 138.
 
Daniel Nunez of Trinity is second after a 70 and a 72 for a 142 total.
 
TLU's Chase Maus (Manor/Manor) moved into the Top 10 with a 3-under 69 that followed a first-round 77. Maus is in a tie for sixth.
 
The Bulldogs' Chandler Otto (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge), Cameron Carter (Rock Springs, Wyo./Kelly Walsh), and Matthew McArthur (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) are in 13th, 17th, and 17th, respectively.
 
Otto carded rounds of 76 and 74. Carter had a 72 and an 82, and McArthur posted a 79 and a 75.
 
The Bulldogs will tee off Tuesday with a final 18 holes set to determine the individual and team champions for the SCAC.
 
TLU will play alongside Trinity and the University of Dallas in the five groups of three players each.
 
Dallas and the University of St. Thomas are tied for third in the team standings at 603.
 
Schreiner and Centenary, at 619 and 621, are fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
Due to SCAC protocols and precautions regarding COVID-19, Southwestern University withdrew from the men's tournament before tournament play began.
