Bulldogs, McArthur snag second-place finishes at SCAC Conference Preview

BLANCO, Texas -- Led by Matthew McArthur's second-place finish, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs moved up a spot in the SCAC Conference Preview standings to grab a runner-up team showing.

The Bulldogs shot a final-round 302 on Tuesday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club. TLU trailed Southwestern by two shots entering the final 18 holes. The Bulldogs ended the tournament eight shots in front of the Pirates.

Trinity won the tournament with rounds of 290 and 294 in the two-day tournament. The Tigers won by 23 shots over the Bulldogs.

Daniel Nunez of Trinity won the individual crown with rounds of 69 and 72. Nunez was the first-round leader. He finished with a 3-under 141.

Nunez won by six shots over McArthur, Trinity's DJ Springer, and University of St. Thomas golfer Nick Morris.

McArthur claimed the second-place trophy by way of a scorecard tiebreaker with Springer and Morris.

McArthur jumped up to second with an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday. He shot a 75 on Monday.

Chase Maus and Nathan Haley tied for 13th overall. Maus posted a 77 and a 76, and Haley fired a 76 and a 77.

Chandler Otto and Cameron Carter tied for 17th and 19th, respectively. Otto carded a 77 and a 78, and Carter registered a 79 and 77.

The SCAC Conference Preview, hosted by TLU, gives Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools a chance to see the Vaaler Creek course. Vaaler Creek will serve as the host of the 2021 SCAC Women's and Men's Golf Championships, set for April 19-20.
