Phillips, Tapken Earn All-SCAC Recognition

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior guard Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) and sophomore forward Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) were named to the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Men's Basketball Team Saturday by the league's coaches and sports information directors.

This is Phillips's third career All-SCAC honor and Tapken's second after being named to the All-SCAC Freshman Team a season ago.

Tapken led the Bulldogs with 12.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and was third on the team with 2.3 assists per game. Tapken, who finished 11th in the nation in field goal percentage as a freshman, continued his efficient style of play shooting 61.6 percent from the floor, finishing third in the SCAC. Tapken started all 22 games he played and finished in double figures in 12 of them. Tapken scored over 20 points three times this season including a career-high 27 points against Schreiner.

Phillips closes out his five-year Texas Lutheran career as a three-time All-SCAC selection. The Austin native finished as the team's third leading scorer with 10.6 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, and 1.6 steals per game (ranking sixth in the SCAC). Phillips, who joined the program's 1,000 point club earlier this season, scored in double figures in eight of his 16 games played including two 20-plus point efforts after missing the first eight games of the season due to injury.

The Bulldogs concluded the 2024-25 season with a 6-19 record, going 4-12 in the SCAC to claim fifth place in the SCAC Gold Division in the regular season.
