Bulldogs Fall to Concordia (TX) 94-73 in Season Finale
AUSTIN, Texas -- Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) scored a team-high 25 points and grabbed six rebounds but it was not enough as Texas Lutheran suffered an 94-73 defeat to Concordia (TX) Sunday evening to close the 2024-25 regular season.
Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) and Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) finished with nine and seven points respectively in their final games as Bulldogs with Phillips grabbing a season-high ten rebounds. Jake Goode (Bulverde/Smithson Valley) scored a career-high nine points and grabbed a career-high six rebounds.
Turnovers and free throws dictated Sunday's contest as Texas Lutheran turned the ball over 25 times to Concordia's nine and the Tornados made 26-of-31 attempts at the free throw line while TLU only attempted 14 for the entire game.
The two teams traded baskets early before a Tornados 16-3 in the middle of the first half gave Concordia a lead they'd never relinquish. The Tornados led the Bulldogs 43-28 at halftime.
Despite a second half performance that saw Texas Lutheran shoot 52.1 percent, they couldn't cut into the Concordia lead as the Tornados pulled away in the second half leading by as many as 27 points.
The Bulldogs - a team picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll - conclude the 2024-25 season with a 6-19 record, going 4-12 in the SCAC to claim ninth place in the conference in the regular season. The Bulldogs will graduate three seniors - Easton Allen, Xavier Phillips, and Nell Horton (Detroit, MI/East English Village Prep). We thank them for all of their contributions to the Texas Lutheran men's basketball program.
