TLU Falls to Southwestern, 66-52
GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's basketball team dropped the back end of their two-game tilt with Southwestern Saturday night, 66-52. The Bulldogs move to 3-8 (1-1 SCAC) for the 2024-25 campaign, while the Pirates improve to 1-10 (1-1 SCAC).
Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) led the Bulldogs with a season-high 18 points in the game on 7-for-13 shooting. Following the 18-point performance, Phillips is seven points away from 1,000 in his collegiate career. Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill) and Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) finished with nine points each withEdwards grabbing a team-high six rebounds and Wallace dishing out a team-high three assists.
The Pirates started the game on a 17-4 run that would force a TLU timeout and would carry a 33-21 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs were never able to recover from the Pirates opening run, trailing by as many as 21 points on Saturday.
The Pirates shot 50% from the field on the night and outrebounded the Bulldogs 26-23. The Pirates would also own the advantage in the turnover department, forcing 21 TLU turnovers to their seventeen.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Friday, Jan. 10, as they return to Memorial Gymnasium to host #RV St. Thomas (9-1). Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM. The game will be streamed on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
