Bulldogs Drop Physical Game at Chapman, 73-61

ORANGE, CA -- In their second of three games on their California trip, Texas Lutheran men's basketball dropped a physical battle to undefeated Chapman University, 73-61, Friday night.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-3 on the season while the Panthers improve to 5-0.

Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) led the way for the Bulldogs with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) finished in double figures for the fourth straight game with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists while going 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill) was the final Bulldog in double figures with ten points and six rebounds off the bench. Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.

There was a total of 39 fouls called between the two teams and the two teams combined for 45 free throws.

TLU would trail by as many as 15 points in the first half but were able to narrow the Panthers lead to eight entering halftime as Chapman held a 35-27 edge. Allen and Wallace led the Bulldogs in the first half with six points each at the break.

TLU would trail for the entire second half. The Bulldogs would attempt to rally late, cutting the Panthers lead to seven, but untimely turnovers and second chance opportunities spoiled the Bulldogs comeback attempt as the Panthers lead ballooned to double digits again over the final 3:30 of play. The Panthers held a 27-5 advantage over the Bulldogs in points off turnovers, forcing the Bulldogs to turn the ball over 20 times Friday night.

Texas Lutheran concludes their California road trip on Nov. 23 as they take on Whittier College Saturday night in Orange, California in a neutral site matchup. Tip-off is set for 7 PM CST/ 5 PM PST from Harold Hutton Sports Center.
