TLU Falls to Colorado College, 62-50

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- The Texas Lutheran men's basketball team dropped their lone game of the weekend at Colorado College on Friday night, 62-50. The Bulldogs move to 1-9 (0-3 SCAC) for the 2023-24 campaign, while the Tigers improve to 5-3 (1-0 SCAC).

Freshman forward Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) led the Bulldogs with a career-high 18 points in the game on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting. It's the second game in a row in double figures for the freshman as he has made 14 of his last 15 field goal attempts. Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) joined Tapken in double figures with 10 points while adding five rebounds and two steals.

Tapken would score the first eight points of the game for the Bulldogs in the first five minutes of action as TLU opened the game with a 14-7 lead. TLU would hold the lead for the opening eight minutes before the Tigers would tie the game 14-all before gaining an advantage they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Despite poor shooting efforts from both squads, Colorado College would close the half with a 10-5 run as both teams entered the locker room shooting under thirty percent.

Colorado College would lead by as many as 14 points in the second half with TLU never coming closer than nine points down the stretch as the Tigers kept the Bulldogs at bay.

The Bulldogs held a narrow advantage - outshooting the Tigers 33.3 percent to 32.9 percent, but the Tigers would make more threes and make 21 of their 29 free throw attempts. The Tigers would also own the advantage on the glass and in the turnover department.

The Bulldogs will travel to Corpus Christi to face the Texas A&M Corpus-Christi Islanders in an exhibition on Monday at 11 AM in the Dugan Wellness Center before returning home to start their longest homestand of the season with a non-conference rematch against Hardin-Simmons on Wednesday, December 20 at 5:30 PM. The Bulldogs matchup with the Islanders will be streamed on ESPN+ while the Bulldogs game against the Cowboys on Wednesday will be streamed on the Bulldogs' YouTube channel TLU+.
