Bulldogs Fall to Trinity, 70-60

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran dropped the back end of their conference opening weekend, falling at home to the rival Trinity Tigers, 70-60, Saturday evening at Memorial Gymnasium.

Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill Academy) and LaDarius King (Austin/St. Stephen's Episcopal) led the Bulldogs with 14 points each off the bench. The 14 points was a season-high for both Edwards and King with Edwards adding a team-high seven rebounds. Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) would join them in double figures with a career-high 13 points while dishing a career-high three assists. Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) dished out a team-high five assists and would be the final Bulldog in double figures with 11 points.

Texas Lutheran would score the first two buckets of the game via layups from Tapken and Phillips, but that would be the only TLU lead on the night as Trinity would overtake the Bulldogs in the first half and never lose the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Tigers would lead by as many as 15 points in the second half. The duo of Edwards and King attempted to will the Bulldogs back into the game - combining for 19 of the Bulldogs 38 points - as the Tigers lead shrunk to as low as four points with 8:11 remaining. Trinity would stretch their lead to double digits over the next minute and cruise to a 70-60 final with a double digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-8 (0-2 SCAC) while Trinity, who received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 this week, improves to 6-0 (2-0 SCAC) as they held an advantage in every major statistical category.

The Bulldogs will have a week off to regroup before returning to action on December 15, traveling to Colorado College to continue conference play in Colorado Springs. Tip-off is set for 6:30 PM CST/5:30 PM MST. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
