Bulldogs Move to 2-0 in SCAC with Win Over Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson), Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) and Jordan Dunn (Del Valle/Del Valle) combined for 47 points to lead the Bulldogs (6-3, 2-0 SCAC) to a 74-65 win over Austin College at Hughey Gymnasium in Sherman, Texas.

Wallace, who matched his career-high of 18 points and added eight rebounds, continued his impressive stretch of play that has seen him average 16.6 points per game over the last three games. Phillips, who led the Bulldogs with 20 points on Friday and tallied 15 points on Saturday, wasted no time Saturday night, pouring in 13 points in the first half - including three 3-pointers as Texas Lutheran carried a 43-25 lead into halftime.

Texas Lutheran would lead wire-to-wire - leading by as many as 23 points. Austin College did not allow the Bulldogs to coast in the second half, however. The 'Roos closed the gap to 64-57 with two minutes remaining forcing a Texas Lutheran timeout.

Austin College cut it as close as 67-63 as Texas Lutheran struggled - shooting 27.8% in the second half - but five made free throws from Wallace down the stretch stopped the 'Roos threat.

Up next, Texas Lutheran will travel to Corpus Christi to face Texas Lutheran men's basketball alum Steve Lutz '95 and his Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders in TLU's final exhibition of the season. Lutz led the Islanders to a Southland Conference (SLC) Championship and the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in his first season in 2021-22.
