Sebastian Andrade Named SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Texas Lutheran senior Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) has been named SCAC men's basketball player of the week the league announced on Monday. This is Andrade's first weekly honor of the season.
Andrade opened last week scoring 10 points including the Bulldogs final six points down the stretch against Trinity. Andrade would sink two free throws to reduce the Tigers lead to 66-65 and would make a decisive three with 1:35 remaining to give the Bulldogs a 68-67 as the Bulldogs upset the Tigers 69-67. In addition to scoring 10 points, Andrade would grab seven rebounds and dish seven assists. Andrade would finish 60% from the field. In TLU's 90-85 victory over Dallas, Andrade would finish with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five assists and once again making free throws to seal another Bulldogs win.
Andrade is currently in the top 10 in the SCAC in assists per game and top 15 in points and rebounds per game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year forward Kamden Ross of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a road win at Dallas, matching his career high with 24 points on 12 of 16 shooting while establishing a new career mark with 19 rebounds in the contest. Senior guard Scott Cunningham of Colorado College poured in a career-high 35 points as the Tigers kept their SCAC tournament hopes alive with a 72-59 victory at Austin College on Sunday. He connected on 12 of 21 field-goal attempts and went 11-for-12 at the free throw line, while also dishing out three assists and grabbed a pair of rebounds. The senior guard scored 25 points during the second half, including 16 inside the final 10 minutes. Senior guard Christian Alaekwe of St. Thomas averaged 15.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as the Celts maintained the top spot in the SCAC standings with four victories last week. Sophomore forward Jack Boyle of Dallas averaged a double-double last week with 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. He hit his peak on Saturday against Schreiner, posting a season-best 25 points on 66.7 percent shooting (10-of15) with 12 rebounds. Senior guard Kyle Poerschke of Southwestern averaged 20.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, hitting 45.5 percent from behind the 3-point line on 7.3 attempts per game in the Pirates' three games last week. Junior forward Enzo Sechi of Trinity continued his reliable scoring pace for the Tigers with two more double-digit scoring perfor- mances last week, averaging 15 points per contest.
