Texas Lutheran's season comes to close with SCAC quarterfinal loss to Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball saw its season come to a close Friday evening with a 62-59 loss to Centenary College in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship.

Seth Thomas converted a three-point play with 29 seconds remaining to account for the Gents' winning margin.

Centenary moved its overall record to 8-3. TLU ended its year at 4-7. The Bulldogs and Gents started this pandemic-shortened season in January.

Centenary, the defending SCAC champion, defeated TLU in the 2020 SCAC Championship final.

The No. 3 seed, Centenary advances to play St. Thomas (Texas) in the SCAC semifinal round.

St. Thomas, the No. 2 seed, will host the Gents next weekend. The Celts defeated University of Dallas 84-76 Friday in Houston.

TLU had the ball with 14 seconds to play but could not convert before committing a foul with 11 seconds to play. After Centenary missed a free throw and the lead stayed at three, a final TLU shot at the buzzer was no good.
