St. Thomas rolls to road victory over Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas -- The University of St. Thomas held Texas Lutheran to 13 second-half points and pulled away from the Bulldogs in a 65-41 conference road win Friday night in Memorial Gymnasium.
 
St. Thomas improved to 7-2 overall and to 7-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
 
TLU dropped its second straight and fell to 2-5 overall and to 2-5 in the SCAC.
 
The Celts held the Bulldogs to two points over the first 12 minutes and 23 seconds of the second half. In that time, St. Thomas stretched a six-point halftime edge (34-28) to an 18-point lead (48-30).
 
TLU made just 21.8 percent of its shots for the game. In the second half, the Bulldogs shot 13.8 percent.
 
St. Thomas shot 47.2 percent for the game and 50 percent in the second half.
 
Cameron Gims and Juan Hood scored 15 and 12, respectively, for the Celts. Adam Kanafani added nine points and seven rebounds.
 
Sebastian Andrade led TLU with 14 points. Caleb Lister chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.
 
TLU and St. Thomas play again Saturday at 2 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. The game will be the only contest of the day on campus, with TLU Athletics home contests in football, women's basketball, and softball all canceled or postponed due to weather and travel issues (football and softball) or COVID-related precautions (women's basketball).
