Trio of Bulldogs Earn D3football.com All-Region Honors
SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior Cameron Welch (New Braunfels/Canyon) and sophomores Troy Tomaselli (San Antonio/Cornerstone Christian) and Ian Wollard (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) have been named All-Region III in balloting by Region 3 sports information directors and D3football.com staff. The Bulldogs trio were chosen from 195 nominations by full Division III member schools.
NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 3 includes the American Southwest Conference, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the Southern Athletic Association, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference.
Welch was named First Team All-Region while Tomaselli and Wollard were named Second and Third Team respectively. The All-Region honors are a first for all three Bulldogs. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.
Welch was amongst the best punters in Division-III in 2024. The New Braunfels native finished the season in Division-III with an average of 44.9 yards per punt. With the mark, Welch broke the previous Texas Lutheran program record of 43.0 yards held by Harold Anderson since 1962 and matched the SCAC's all-time single season mark of 44.9 yards per kick set by Bob Burwell of Rose-Hulman in 1978. Welch ends his collegiate career with a punting average of 40.8 yards, a new program record. The senior, who was a two-time SCAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Week during the 2024 season, placed 14 of his 41 punts inside the 20-yard line with just two touchbacks all season.
Tomaselli was one of the top defensive players in the SCAC, finishing as a finalist for SCAC Defensive Player of the Year and earning First Team All-SCAC honors. The San Antonio native finished the season with 59 tackles, a career-high four interceptions, and five pass breakups in 11 games. Tomaselli finished fifth in the SCAC in tackles.
Wollard was a key member of a TLU offensive line that led the way for a Texas Lutheran offense that finished 25th in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 202 yards per game on the ground. Wollard graded out at 85% at the tackle position for the Bulldogs as rushed for over 2000 yards for just the fourth time since becoming a Division-III institution, finishing the season with 2,222 yards rushing.
