TLU Football Coach Matt Gustafson Selected as Inductee to 2024 San Antonio Area Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Honor

SEGUIN, Texas -- The San Antonio Area Baseball Coaches Association has announced the 2024 Hall of Honor induction class, which includes current Texas Lutheran assistant head football coach Matt Gustafson. Gustafson joins his uncle, former University of Texas Baseball Coach, Cliff Gustafson in the Hall.

Gustafson, who has been a member of the TLU Football staff for seven years, previously coached baseball in the San Antonio area for 16 seasons starting in 1986. Gustafson coached both football and baseball at Marion, Uvalde, San Antonio Clark, San Antonio Churchill, and Smithson Valley High Schools during his time at the high school level.

Gustafson won 13 district championships, was a six-time regional finalist, and made it to the state tournament in 2001 with Smithson Valley. During that time period, Gustafson sent 102 players to play at the collegiate level. His overall record was 378-108-2 (.777) as a head coach.

"I give a lot of credit to my uncle (Cliff) for teaching me the game of baseball, and my dad for teaching me how to coach baseball with a football mentality," said Gustafson.

Gustafson came out of retirement to join his brother, Carl, on TLU's football coaching staff where he has been a member since 2018.

The induction ceremony will take place Wednesday, December 11, at Pedrotti's Ranch in Helotes, Texas.
