Bulldogs Dominate North American, 45-17, for First Win of LaHue Era

STAFFORD, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran football team defeated North American University Saturday night at Stafford MSD Stadium in Stafford, Texas, to end their five game losing streak dating back to last season and pick up their first win of the 2022 season. With the 45-17 win, head coach Neal LaHue secured his first win as head coach at Texas Lutheran.

Quarterback Seth Cosme (Angleton/Angleton) passed for five touchdowns, one short of the Texas Lutheran single game record.

Cosme connected on 25 of 28 passes for 341 yards. He would also add a two-yard rushing touchdown. Jacob Forton (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) rushed for 38 yards to lead Texas Lutheran and added six receptions for 83 yards. Aaron Sotelo (Castroville/Medina Valley) caught two touchdown passes as he finished the game with a team-high six receptions for 88 yards. Keon Torello (St. Louis, MO/Austin Crockett) and Trent Stefka (Caldwell/Caldwell) also found the end zone with Torello setting a new season-high in receiving yards (79) and Stefka matching his season-high of four receptions, tallying 51 yards in the process.

Texas Lutheran held NAU to 338 total yards.

Texas Lutheran jumped out to a 21-0 lead just under ten minutes into the game. The Bulldogs would take a 28-3 lead into halftime following a Trent Stefka receiving touchdown in the closing moments of the first half. Texas Lutheran would cruise through the second half to secure their first win of the season.

Canon Kromis (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) led the Texas Lutheran defense with seven tackles (two solo, five assisted). The Texas Lutheran secondary was active throughout with six pass breakups and three interceptions. Mason Hardy (Flynn/Normangee), Khalen Wilkerson (Killeen/Ellison), and Caleb Giles (Houston/Lamar) all registered interceptions on the night. Hardy, Christian Monroe (College Station/College Station), and Joshua Stanton (Houston/Lamar) all finished with six tackles. In total, the Texas Lutheran defense forced four turnovers - recovering a fumble in addition to the three interceptions.

The Bulldogs will return to conference play next week as they travel to Sherman, Texas, next Saturday to face Austin College. Kickoff is set for 1 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
