Thirty-five Texas Lutheran Football student-athletes named ASC Academic All-Conference

SEGUIN, Texas – Thirty-five Texas Lutheran Football student-athletes have been named Academic All-Conference by the American Southwest Conference.

To be eligible for ASC Academic All-Conference honors, student-athletes must have been in attendance and completed at least one academic year (two consecutive semesters) at their institution.

Student-athletes also must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) after the spring semester.

A total of 1,808 student-athletes from 12 member and three affiliate institutions were recognized Academic All-Conference by the ASC for the 2020-21 school year.   

Football is the lone TLU sport that competes in the American Southwest Conference. TLU is an affiliate member of the ASC. Last week, 145 fellow TLU student-athletes were named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Academic Honor Roll. Fifteen of TLU's 18 intercollegiate sports compete in the SCAC. 

In total, 180 Bulldog student-athletes received academic honors from their affiliated conferences in the 2020-21 academic year. 

Among the TLU Football academic honorees for the ASC, senior receiver Hunter Jaehne (Giddings/Giddings) was named to the ASC Academic All-Conference team for a third time. 

Bulldogs named ASC Academic All-Conference for a second time were: Fabian Facundo (New Braunfels/Canyon), Cason Hickingbottom (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Trevor Hopkins (New Braunfels/Canyon), Juan Ocampo (Lockhart/Lockhart), Mason Perkins (Burleson/Arlington Martin), Justice Porter (Cypress/Cypress Ridge), Robert Ramirez III (Brownsville/Los Fresnos), and Jackson Worley (Keller/Timber Creek). 

Bulldogs that combined Academic All-Conference honors with playing All-Conference awards were: Seth Cosme (Angleton/Angleton, All-ASC Honorable Mention), Aaron Sotelo (Castroville/Medina Valley, All-ASC Honorable Mention), Hopkins (All-ASC Second Team), Ocampo (All-ASC First Team), Perkins (All-ASC Second Team), Porter (All-ASC Second Team), Ramirez (All-ASC Third Team), and Worley (All-ASC First Team). 

Ocampo and Perkins recently were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team for NCAA Division III. Both players are on the national ballot for Academic All-America voting. 

Perkins, Worley, and Jerrell Mitchell (Pleasanton/Pleasanton) are 2021 spring or summer graduates of TLU.
