TLU's Davis, Ocampo receive ASC Football Player of the Week honors

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Football players Dakwa Davis (Houston/Cypress Creek) and Juan Ocampo (Lockhart/Lockhart) received American Southwest Conference Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced Tuesday evening.

Davis was named the ASC Defensive Player of the Week, and Ocampo was selected the ASC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Both players figured prominently into the Bulldogs' 24-3 home win Saturday over Sul Ross State.

Davis led TLU's defense with a game-high 11 tackles. He added 4.5 tackles for loss, resulting in 15 yards of losses for the Sul Ross offense. Davis also added a half-sack.

The ASC defensive award is the first of Davis' career.

Ocampo connected on a 34-yard field goal into a stiff south wind at Bulldog Stadium. He was also a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points and averaged 51.8 yards per kickoff with one touchback. Ocampo forced a couple of fair catches on his kickoffs into the wind.

The ASC special teams award is the third of Ocampo's career.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the ASC.

The team heads to Abilene, Texas for Saturday's noon kickoff with Hardin-Simmons. Pre-game coverage on KWED 1580 AM and on tlubulldogs.com begins at 11:30 a.m. with KWED Sports Director Mike McBride and TLU's Greg Burnett on the call.

Spectators are allowed at HSU's Shelton Stadium. If the stadium reaches 50 percent capacity, the spectator split is 1,500 for the home side and 500 for the visitor side.
