Baseball Drops Doubleheader to No. 21/24 Concordia (TX)

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped their doubleheader to No. 21/24 Concordia (TX) with scores of 13-3 in seven innings and 9-3 Thursday evening at Gardner-Boggs Field in Austin.

The Bulldogs got into an early deficit and were unable to come back, falling 13-3 in game one.

Concordia scored four runs in the first inning and tacked on four more in the second to jump out to a big 8-0 lead. Nolan McInvale (Poth/Poth) started and took the loss to drop to 4-3 on the season.

Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) drove in the Bulldogs first run of the game with an RBI double in the fourth inning. A two-run home run from Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) in the fourth accounted for the Bulldogs final runs of the game as all of the Bulldogs hits and runs in the game came in that inning.

Durkin finished 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a run scored while Peavy went 1-for-2 with the two-run homer.

The Tornados responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth via the Tornados fifth and sixth home runs of the game.

Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) closed out the game, tossing a career-high five innings.

Texas Lutheran dropped the backend of the doubleheader 9-3.

Kameron Miller (Kenedy/Kenedy) went 3-for-3 with a run scored while Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) was 3-for-4.

Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) started and pitched six innings and took the loss to drop to 5-5 on the season.

Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) got the Bulldogs on the board first by scoring on a double play in the first. The Tornados responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

TLU got a run back in the second as Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) scored on a wild pitch to cut the Concordia lead to 3-2. An RBI groundout from Small tied the game 3-3 in the fourth.

The Tornados scored five runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single and a grand slam to regain the lead before tacking on another run in the eighth.

The Bulldogs look to salvage the series on Friday as they face the Tornados in the series finale at 1 PM at Gardner-Boggs Field in Austin. The game will be streamed on FloSports. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
