Baseball Drops Doubleheader to #RV McMurry on Senior Day

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped their doubleheader and the series to #RV McMurry with scores of 7-4 and 12-1 on Saturday at Katt-Isbel Field.

Prior to Saturday's game, Texas Lutheran honored its eight seniors: R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice), Jeremy Kennard (Frisco/Frisco Lone Star), Trevor Cones (Stagecoach/Tomball), Garrett James (Fort Bragg, CA/Fort Bragg), Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch), Nolan McInvale (Poth/Poth), Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point), and Ty Winkenwerder (Shiner/Shiner) in senior day festivities.

After the two teams traded zeroes through five innings, Texas Lutheran allowed six runs over the final three innings and were unable to mount a comeback in game one, falling 7-4.

Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) finished 2-for-2 with an RBI while Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) went 2-for-5 with an RBI triple.

Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) started and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and was charged with the loss. Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) and Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) combined to allow three runs over the final 2.1 innings.

After ending the shutout in the sixth, McMurry broke the game open with three runs in the seventh. An RBI triple from Goudeau in the bottom of the inning got the Bulldogs on the board.

RBI singles from Small and Tyler Helpenstill (Pearland/Lutheran South) shrunk the War Hawks lead to 4-3 before the War Hawks tacked on three insurance runs in the ninth.

The Bulldogs attempted a rally in the ninth but only tallied one run on a Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) RBI groundout.

Texas Lutheran dropped the series and home finale, 12-1.

The game was decided relatively early, as McMurry took advantage of four Bulldogs errors to lead 12-0 through five innings.

Texas Lutheran got on the board with one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim the lead to 12-1 when Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) drove in a run with an RBI double.

Senior Diego Vinton pitched two scoreless frames with two strikeouts to close the game.

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back as they begin their season-ending six-game road trip starting next week with a three-game series against No. 19 Concordia (TX) starting on Thursday, April 17. First pitch is scheduled for 1 & 4 PM. All games will be streamed on FloSports.
