Baseball Drops Doubleheader to St. Thomas

SUGAR LAND, Texas --#RV Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped their doubleheader and were swept by St. Thomas with scores of 10-3 and 8-6 Friday night at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.

The Bulldogs (20-10, 13-8 SCAC) will look to bounce back by closing out their 2025 home slate next week against #RV McMurry starting on Friday, April 11. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM. All games will be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

In game one, Texas Lutheran took an early 1-0 lead on a second inning RBI fielder's choice from Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays).

The Celts responded with runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead.

A sacrifice fly from Drew Burnett (Seguin/Seguin) tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth.

The Celts offense came alive in the fifth and seventh innings, combining for eight runs across the two innings to take a 10-2 lead.

A Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) RBI single provided the Bulldogs final run of the game in the ninth.

Nolan McInvale (Poth/Poth) started and pitched six innings with four strikeouts. He allowed five runs on eight hits and five walks to pick up the losing decision.

Texas Lutheran trailed early in game two and could not complete the comeback, dropping the series finale 8-6.

Drew Burnett went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI while Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) finished 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) had success in relief, pitching three scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

St. Thomas grabbed an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, scoring the runs on four hits and two errors. A solo home run from the Celts extended their lead to 6-0 in the second inning.

After being no-hit through 3.1 innings, a double from Bourgeois got the Bulldogs in the hit column in the fourth and a sacrifice fly from Burnett got the Bulldogs on the board.

The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead in the fifth, scoring four runs on three hits in the fifth. After a walk and hit by pitch to start the inning, Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point) got the scoring started with an RBI single. Cooper Jen and Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) passed the bat with RBI singles of their own to shrink the lead to 6-4. A sac fly from Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) provided the final run of the inning to bring the game to a score of 6-5.

The Celts got runs back in the fifth and sixth to go up 8-5.

The Bulldogs rally in the ninth fell short as Drew Burnett's sac fly to score Bourgeois would be the only run the Bulldogs mustered in the ninth with the comeback attempt coming up short.
