#RV TLU Baseball Picks Up Opening Day Win
SHREVEPORT, LA -- #RV Texas Lutheran baseball scored three runs in the fourth to pull away for a 7-4 win over Centenary in the first of two games on Opening Day for the Bulldogs at Shehee Stadium in Shreveport.
Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning, the first of his career. The junior shortstop went 3-for-4 at the plate with four total RBIs and two runs scored.
Garret Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) got the Opening Day start in game one and pitched six innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and one walk and striking out one batter. Blinn College transfer Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) finished the game, picking up his first save as a Bulldog by tossing three innings in relief, allowing two runs on five hits.
Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk, and a run scored, while Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Freshman Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) made his first career start and went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Brayden Sprencel, who started the game at third before taking the mound, went 1-for-4 with an RBI double.
Texas Lutheran grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first courtesy of a sac fly from Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) and an RBI double from Kash Durkin. After a quiet few innings, the Bulldogs got back on the board with the three-run homer from Bourgeois to extend their lead to 5-0.
An RBI double from Sprencel in the fifth and RBI single from Bourgeois in the sixth stretched the lead to 7-0 in the sixth.
The Gents began a rally in the sixth, scoring four runs across the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings to shrink the lead to 7-4 before Sprencel and the Bulldogs shut the door and sealed the win.
