Baseball Falls to No. 14 Trinity in Extra Innings

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball lost to No. 14 Trinity, 6-5, on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning on Saturday at Trinity Baseball Field in San Antonio.

The Bulldogs (19-12, 8-6 SCAC) scored five runs on six hits and three Tigers errors in the game but came up just short in extra innings.

JT Taylor (Conroe/Fort Bend Christian) pitched 6.1 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five batters.

Carson Draehn (Brenham/Brenham) went 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Johnny Garza Jr. (San Antonio/McCollum) pitched 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, walking three batters and striking out one with the only hit allowed being the leadoff, walk-off home run in the tenth inning.

After being shutout in game one, the Tigers would hit a solo home run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. That's where the score would remain until the Tigers would double their lead in the fifth via an RBI single.

Texas Lutheran answered with three runs on two hits and two Tigers errors in the sixth inning to take the lead, 3-2. An RBI single from Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) would cut the Tigers lead in half and get the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. Arias and Carson Draehn would score on a two-out Tigers error to give the Bulldogs the lead.

The Bulldogs would load the bases with two outs in the seventh before tacking on two more runs via an RBI infield single from Draehn and a bases loaded hit by pitch to Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson).

Trinity would tie the game up in the bottom of the inning with three runs on no hits - utilizing five walks and a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-all.

The Tigers wasted no time in the bottom of the tenth hitting a lead off home run to end the game.

Texas Lutheran had their share of opportunities throughout the game but were unable to fully break the game open, leaving nine runners on base.

The Bulldogs and Tigers will face off in a series deciding third game on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 PM. The game will be streamed on Trinity's Tiger Network. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
