TLU Baseball Rallies for Walk-Off Win over Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- A tenth inning fielding error following a two-out ground ball up the middle from sophomore shortstop Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) led to a walk-off to give Texas Lutheran Baseball a 2-1 win over Schreiner on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field.

The Bulldogs (16-11) trailed 1-0 in the third before an Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) RBI single tied the game 1-1, which is where the game would remain until the tenth. Peavy finished 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base. Hayden Kesselring (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) finished 3-for-5 with a double.

Texas Lutheran and Schreiner will conclude the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Katt-Isbel Field starting at 1 PM. All games this weekend will be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Adam Peavy walked before Aiden Spires (Fort Worth/Arlington Heights) would come in to pinch run for him. After Spires stole second, Carson Draehn (Brenham/Brenham) laid down his second sacrifice bunt of the game to move Spires to third. Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) would reach on a fielder's choice as the Mountaineers opted to get Spires out in a rundown. Post would use heads up baserunning during the rundown to advance all the way to third with two outs. Chase Bourgeois would hit a ground ball up the middle that the Mountaineers shortstop would bobble for the Bulldogs to walk it off.

Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst) had the longest outing of his career, pitching a ten-inning complete game and allowing just one run while striking out nine on 125 pitches. After allowing one run on three hits in the first inning, Beard would throw nine scoreless innings and only allow one hit over the final nine innings. Beard would retire 26 straight batters before a two-out single in the top of the tenth. With the nine strikeouts, Beard eclipsed the 200 career strikeout mark - increasing his career total to 206.
