Texas Lutheran Drops Doubleheader to Dallas

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped the series against University of Dallas after dropping Saturday's doubleheader to the Crusaders at Katt-Isbel Field. The Bulldogs lost the series opener 6-3 before dropping the back end of the doubleheader, 5-3.

The Bulldogs (11-11, 0-5 SCAC) and the Crusaders will finish the series with a single-game Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs look to salvage the series in the final game of the team's 13-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM at Katt-Isbel Field. All games will be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

JT Taylor (Conroe/Fort Bend Christian) started game one and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on one hit and nine walks. Taylor struck out five in the outing, his fourth straight with at least five strikeouts. The TLU pitching staff would walk 14 batters in total in the day's first game.

Carson Draehn (Brenham/Brenham) launched the Bulldogs into a 1-0 lead with his first home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the inning as two runs came across following a sacrifice bunt attempt from Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) that saw him reach on a Dallas fielding error - increasing the TLU lead to 3-0.

The Crusaders (15-4, 4-1 SCAC) scored six unanswered runs over the game's final seven innings - starting with single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth to tie the game at three.

Dallas battled back to score two runs in the eighth to take a 5-3 lead over the Bulldogs. The Crusaders tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth to make it 6-3 and finished off the win with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) and Hayden Kesselring (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) each collected two hits for Texas Lutheran in game two.

Texas Lutheran took advantage of an early opportunity in the second inning as Arias hit a two-RBI single to tie the game 2-2 after the Crusaders scored two in the game's first inning.

Dallas used three hits and a wild pitch to put up three runs in the fourth.

The two teams traded zeroes until the Bulldogs attempted to rally in the ninth. Hayden Kesselring got a run back for the Bulldogs with an RBI single to cut the Crusaders lead to 5-3 with two outs. The Bulldogs would strand two runners to end the game.

Nolan McInvale (Poth/Poth) entered the game in the second inning and threw six innings in relief. Garrett Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) threw a scoreless final two innings. Nedd would also throw a scoreless inning in game one.
