Baseball Wins 5-3 over DeSales

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball picked up a 5-3 win over DeSales University on Sunday at Katt-Isbel Field.

The Bulldogs (8-6) scored five runs on ten hits and held the Bulldogs to three runs on seven hits.

Johnny Garza Jr. (San Antonio/McCollum) pitched seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts, matching his career-high. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth and stranded six runners in total over seven innings.

Freshman Garrett Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) came out of the bullpen in the ninth to pick up his second career save.

The TLU Bulldogs broke up the deadlock with a run in the bottom of the third inning. The Bulldogs loaded the bases for Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) who drove in Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) with a two-out RBI single.

Texas Lutheran added some insurance in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0. Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) and R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice) both singled to start the inning and following a sacrifice bunt, Hayden Kesselring (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) drove in Vasquez with an infield single. Tyler Post would clear the bases with a two-RBI two-out single to make the score 4-0.

A sacrifice fly from Vasquez added another run in the fifth to bring the lead to 5-0.

DeSales got on the board with three runs across the eighth and ninth innings to trim the Bulldogs lead to 5-3.

Texas Lutheran continues its 13-game homestand with a three-game mid-week series with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) starting on Wednesday at 6 PM. All games will be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
