Baseball Falls to Concordia (TX) on Walk-Off

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball lost a heartbreaker to close the Concordia Classic, falling 6-5 on a walk-off to the host Concordia Tornados Saturday night at Tornado Field.

The two teams went back and forth throughout Saturday night. TLU carried a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth before Concordia was able to break through to score the tying and winning runs on a pair of hits.

Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) was 2-for-5 with an RBI double.

TLU grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second courtesy of an RBI single from Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley). In total, Arias combined to drive in seven runs on the weekend.

The Tornados took the lead with runs in the second and fourth innings.

The Bulldogs retook the lead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth with two runs on three hits - including an RBI double from Vasquez.

Concordia got two runs back in the seventh to retake the lead, 4-3.

Johnny Garza Jr. (San Antonio/McCollum) started and pitched five innings, being charged for two runs on four hits.

Texas Lutheran tied the game up 4-4 in the eighth following a leadoff double from Adam Peavy, a fielder's choice from Vasquez, and a sacrifice bunt from Trevor Cones (Stagecoach/Tomball), R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice) would drive in Peavy with a groundout to the third baseman.

Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) would give TLU the lead in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to score Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock).

The Bulldogs continue their non-conference slate next weekend as they travel to UT-Dallas for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader starting on Friday, Feb. 16. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
