Bulldogs Fall to Hardin-Simmons 10-4 in CTX Classic Opener

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran dropped the first of its four games in the 2024 CTX Classic hosted by Concordia University in Austin, falling to the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys, 10-4, Friday afternoon.

Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI and Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) went 1-for-4 with a solo home run to lead the Bulldogs offensively.

The Cowboys took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second in an inning that saw the Cowboys tally four hits.

Following a double steal, Asher Bonnell (Round Rock/Stony Point) would score on an errant throw from the Cowboys catcher to shrink the Cowboys lead to 3-1.

A solo home run from the Cowboys in the top of the fourth returned their lead to three runs which is where it would stay until the sixth inning.

TLU would score single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings courtesy of a sacrifice bunt from R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice), an RBI single from Bourgeois, and the solo homer from Arias but it would not be enough as the Cowboys scored six more runs in the final two innings to put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (3-1) play their second game of the CTX Classic tonight at Tornado Field against the host, Concordia Tornados. First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 6 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
