#RV TLU Baseball Picked Third in Preseason Poll
SEGUIN, Texas -- The conference's head coaches tabbed Texas Lutheran to finish third in the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings announced Wednesday.
No. 22 Trinity is the coaches' pick to win the conference garnering seven first place votes, while Centenary, a team receiving votes in the preseason D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, was picked to finish second, receiving the remaining first place vote. The Bulldogs tied with Southwestern for third place receiving 43 points each.
Last season, the Bulldogs won the SCAC regular season championship for the first time in program history, posting a 17-4 league record. The 2023 Championship marked the fourth regular season championship and sixth SCAC Championship overall.
TLU has finished in the top two of the league standings in seven out of 10 seasons in the SCAC, including the last four seasons.
Led by ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-American Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson), the Bulldogs return four starters, five All-SCAC players, and 19 letterwinners from a year ago. Also returning to the lineup are All-SCAC second team second baseman Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) as well as Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst), Asher Bonnell (Round Rock/Stony Point), and Diego Vinton (Houston/George Ranch) who were All-SCAC Honorable Mention performers last season.
TLU is coming off its fifth-straight 25-plus win season as the Bulldogs finished 29-15 in 2023.
The Bulldogs open the season - the 75th in program history and first under TLU baseball alum and first-year head coach Kyle Palmer '09 - with a three-game series against Sul Ross State at Katt-Isbel Field beginning Feb. 2.
