TLU Baseball Picked Second in SCAC

SEGUIN, Texas -- In a vote of the conference's head coaches, Texas Lutheran was picked to finish second in the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) baseball standings.

Defending regular season champion, #5 Trinity is the favorite to repeat as the Tigers barely edged TLU in the voting. Trinity received seven of the eight first-place votes, while Southwestern garnered the remaining first place vote.

TLU is coming off a second-place regular season conference showing last season, with the Bulldogs finishing 17-4 in league play, just two games out of first. TLU would finish fourth in the SCAC Tournament in 2022 - concluding the season 28-14 overall. The Bulldogs have finished in second place in the regular seasons in each of the two seasons under head coach Rick Heines, winning the SCAC Tournament in 2021.

TLU returns eight starters from that ballclub. In total, Texas Lutheran returns 11 All-SCAC performers from last year's squad led by D3baseball.com All-Region pitcher Joe Burch (Geronimo/Navarro).

Texas Lutheran opens its season with an Opening Day doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 4, against Pacific University, a 2022 NCAA Tournament qualifier, with first pitch scheduled for 12 PM and 3 PM.
