TLU Drops Doubleheader to No. 25 UT-Dallas

RICHARDSON, TX -- Texas Lutheran dropped the first two games of their three game series against No. 25 UT-Dallas, losing by scores of 6-3 and 15-10, at UTD Baseball Field in Richardson, Texas, Saturday afternoon.

Texas Lutheran (0-4, 0-0 SCAC) started the scoring in Game 1 with a two-run second inning with Alec Sanchez (Waxahachie/Waxahachie) scoring Joe Jimenez (San Antonio/Johnson) on a sac fly and a Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) RBI single gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

The Comets (5-0, 3-0 ASC) took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the sixth to make it a 6-2 ballgame.

Joe Jimenez got one back for the Bulldogs in the seventh by drawing a bases loaded walk before the game reached its 6-3 conclusion.

In Game 2, Texas Lutheran put together big first and ninth innings to put a scare into the No. 25 Comets, but UT-Dallas was able to outslug the Bulldogs in the high scoring 15-10 second game of the doubleheader Saturday at UTD Baseball Field.

Texas Lutheran scored first on a three-run home run in from Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) followed by a solo home run from AJ Gonzalez to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 first inning lead. UT-Dallas would tally six runs in response over the next two innings as the Comets led 6-4 after two innings. The two teams would go back-and-forth as the Comets carried a 7-6 lead into the top of the fifth.

UT-Dallas would explode for a six-run fifth inning to stretch out to a 13-6 lead heading into the top of the sixth.

Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch) pitched the final three and two-third scoreless innings, striking out two batters and only allowing one hit.

Blade Strzelczyk (San Antonio/East Central) started a ninth inning rally for the Bulldogs with a two-run triple shrinking the Bulldogs deficit to 13-8. A sac fly from Nick Gardoni (Salinas, Calif./Ruiz (CA)) would score Strzelczyk and Randy Huerta (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) would follow that with a solo home run, but that's where the Bulldogs rally would come to an end - falling just short of a comeback.

Up next, Texas Lutheran and UT-Dallas meet in the final game of their three game series on Sunday at 12 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
