Texas Lutheran's Randy Huerta receives SCAC Hitter of the Week award

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran third baseman Randy Huerta (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Baseball Hitter of the Week.

This week's award marks the third consecutive week that a Bulldog has claimed the hitting honor. In the 10 weeks of the weekly awards, the Bulldogs have collected five of the hitting honors.

Huerta hit .500 and slugged 1.500 with four home runs and 11 RBI during a 3-1 week for the Bulldogs that included a three-game road series sweep of Schreiner.

Huerta also hit a game-tying home run in an eventual 13-12 home loss last week to No. 2 Trinity, and he followed that performance with two home runs and six runs driven in in the opening-series win over Schreiner.

Huerta hit his third homer of the day in the 16-3 late game on Saturday. In the series finale against the Mountaineers, Huerta had two more hits, both doubles and drove in a run. He also stole two bases in the finale.

For the Schreiner series, Huerta's slugging percentage was a whopping 1.889, and his on-base percentage in the series was .733. He scored 10 runs during the week, walked three times and stole three bases.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Rafe Chaumette of Trinity set the pace for an explosive week for the Trinity offense as the senior right fielder collected four extra-base hits, including his first two homers of the season, in the Tigers' series victory over No. 19 Centenary last weekend, all as the lead-off spot in the lineup. The Sugar Land, Texas-native scored six runs between the Centenary series and a midweek non-conference bout with Texas Lutheran University, drove in five more and posted a line of .368/.455/.789 for the week. Senior third baseman Nathan Patton of Dallas had a great week at the plate totaling 10 hits in 20 at bats with at least one hit in each of the Crusaders' five games to help the team post a 4-1 record, including UD's first SCAC series win of the season at St. Thomas. Against UST, Patton hit .667 (8-for-12), scoring seven runs in the three-game set. For the week, Patton drove in five runs, scored eight runs, doubled and took three walks. Senior outfielder Bryce Debbs of Southwestern produced six hits on a .353 batting average last week, driving in four RBIs and scoring four runs. He had an RBI-triple in the first game of the Pirates' three-game series against Austin College, and hit a two-run home run in the final game, finishing the week with a .647 slugging percentage.
