Southwestern takes final game of three-game series with Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Southwestern Pirates notched a win in the final game of the three-game conference series with Texas Lutheran. The Pirates won 6-4 Sunday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field to avoid a three-game sweep.
 
TLU fell to 19-9 overall and to 10-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Southwestern improved to 15-14 overall and to 10-5 in the SCAC.
 
TLU won the first two games of the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. The Bulldogs won 7-5 and 13-7.
 
TLU took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Caleb Maly singled to right field to score Randy Huerta, and Cullen Motsinger drove in Holden Philippus with a sacrifice fly.
 
The Pirates answered the two runs from TLU in the sixth with two runs in the top of the seventh. Maxwell Mims collected an RBI infield single, and Jake Harris knocked home Ted Lobkowicz with a single to make it 5-4.
 
Southwestern added a run in the eighth on an RBI double from Landon Durdin.
 
Lobkowicz was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mims drove in three and had a two-run home run in the third.
 
Maly and Huerta each had two hits for TLU.
 
J.J. Slack tossed the final five innings for Southwestern and picked up the win. He improved to 2-4. Slack struck out eight and allowed just two hits.
 
The Bulldogs are back in action at Katt-Isbel Field on Tuesday night with a 6 p.m. non-conference contest against Trinity.
