Texas A&M International gets 3-run ninth to edge TLU 5-4

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas A&M International scored three runs in the top of the ninth and rallied for a 5-4 non-conference win Tuesday night over Texas Lutheran.
 
At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, the Dustdevils' Brock Hargens singled up the middle with the bases loaded to score two in the ninth. Hargens' hit gave TAMIU the 5-4 lead.
 
One batter before Hargens, Phillip Sanchez walked with the bases loaded to cut the TLU lead to 4-3.
 
TAMIU, an NCAA Division II program out of Laredo, Texas, moved its overall record to 7-16.
 
TLU, a program of the NCAA Division III, fell to 10-7.
 
Tyler Post gave TLU a 4-2 lead in the sixth with a two-run home run to right field. For Post, the blast was his third homer of the year.
 
Caleb Maly and Tyler Cauley each had an RBI for the Bulldogs. Maly and Joe Jimenez each had two hits.
 
Hugo Mendiola picked up the win in relief. He improved to 1-2. Bryce Faust tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save.
 
TAMIU pitching struck out eight TLU batters. TLU pitching issued seven walks. Three of the TLU walks came in the ninth.
 
TLU is back in action on Thursday with the start of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with the University of St. Thomas (Texas). First pitch Thursday is set for 6 p.m.
 
Visiting team fans are not allowed at Katt-Isbel Field. Home team fans must be on the TLU player pass list to be admitted to the stadium.
