Texas Lutheran jumps to 3-0 in SCAC with series sweep of Austin College

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs finished off a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep of the Austin College Kangaroos with 4-2 and 13-3 victories Saturday at Katt-Isbel Field.

TLU improved to 10-6 overall and to 3-0 in the SCAC. Austin College dropped to 4-9 overall and to 0-6 in the SCAC.

Holden Philippus and Joe Jimenez each drove in three in the 13-3 victory. Philippus had two hits and three runs scored. Jimenez was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Each player had a double.

Nolan Tenpas notched the pitching victory after 2-2/3 shutout innings in the second game, which ended after seven innings due to the conference's run rule. Tenpas improved to 2-0.

Joe Burch struck out nine in seven innings of work for the win in the 4-2 victory. Burch moved to 2-1. The right-hander worked around four walks and allowed only three hits.

Chase Cutler worked the final two innings for his second save of the season.

Offensive in the early game, Tyler Post drove in two and had a double. His double in the second inning, scoring Austin Colon, gave TLU a 1-0 lead.

Post added a sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth.

TLU is back in action Tuesday with a single game against Texas A&M-International. First pitch at Katt-Isbel Field is set for 6 p.m.
