Texas Lutheran Baseball secures 9-3 road victory at Mary Hardin-Baylor

BELTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran turned a 1-0 deficit into an 8-1 lead with a five-run fifth inning that propelled the Bulldogs to a 9-3 non-conference victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday.
 
At UMHB's Red Murff Field, the Bulldogs sent 12 men to the plate in the fifth and collected the eight runs on six hits with the help of a balk, a walk, a wild pitch, a hit-by-pitch, an error, and a sacrifice fly.
 
Joe Jimenez singled through the left side for two of the RBI in the fifth.
 
Jimenez started the inning with a walk and later scored on the balk.
 
Tyler Cauley contributed a sacrifice fly, and Cole Irby and Randy Huerta each had RBI singles in the innings.

The Bulldogs finished the night with 14 hits, and TLU pitching held UMHB to only four hits.
 
Irby led TLU with three hits. He was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
Cauley was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jimenez was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
 
Ten different Bulldogs had hits.
 
Chase Cutler (1-0) picked up the win with three innings of relief. Cutler struck out five.
 
Brendan Beard started the game and went three innings. He allowed just one run (unearned). He struck out three.
 
TLU struck out 11 UMHB batters.
 
The Bulldogs host Southwestern on Friday at 6 p.m. for a non-conference game at Katt-Isbel Field. TLU then heads to Southwestern (in Georgetown, Texas) for a doubleheader on Saturday. All three games with Southwestern are non-conference contests.
