A&T Wins Big Over ETBU to Start Season
SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran acrobatics & tumbling team started the season with a win against East Texas Baptist, 212.700 to 165.400.
The Bulldogs (1-0) defeated the Tigers (0-1) by over 240 points to start the season, the largest margin of victory in program history.
TLU built a lead early - sweeping through the meet and winning all six events.
Through one event, the score was 32.00-21.40 in Texas Lutheran's favor, including scores of 9.65 in the pyramid and toss heats out of the highest possible value of 10.
To start the optional portion of the meet, Texas Lutheran would earn a total score of 25.40 consisting of a 9.30 in the fifth element, 7.45 in the sixth element, and 8.65 in the seventh element. The 25.40 score is a new program-high as the Bulldogs raised the program-high across their last eight meets.
At the half, TLU would lead 85.50 - 62.05 following a Pyramid event that saw the Bulldogs earn a score of 28.10, including a 9.70 in the inversion pyramid. The 28.1 is also a new-program record.
To kick off the second half, Texas Lutheran narrowly outscored the Tigers 24.95-22.80 with a 9.00 in the open toss proving to be the difference.
Texas Lutheran swept the tumbling event, 43.55 to 30.40. The tumbling event was highlighted by an 8.900 out of 9.55 score from Phoenix Cosley (Round Rock/Hendrickson) in the open pass, an 8.45 out of 9.55 score from Gracen Bunch (Georgetown/Georgetown) and a 8.35 out of 8.60 in the Duo Pass from Bunch and Cosley.
In the Team event, ETBU competed first and scored a 50.15. The Bulldogs came next, scoring a 58.70.
The meet finalized, TLU came out on top with a 212.700 score against ETBU's 165.400; the Bulldogs winning by 47.300 points.
Up next, Texas Lutheran concludes their home slate, hosting a tri-meet against #5 Mary Hardin-Baylor and Azusa Pacific on March 3 at 6 PM. The meet will be streamed on TLU+. All streaming links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
