Bulldogs Erupt For First Win in Program History

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Acrobatics and Tumbling team closed its 2024 home meet schedule its on a high note erupting for a new program-high score of 240.570 to secure the first win in program history over East Texas Baptist on Saturday with a final score of 240.570-208.400 victory at Memorial Gymnasium. The win is the first for head coach Cam Bryant and assistant coach Sophia Ranni in just the program's second season. The meet marks the third consecutive meet that Texas Lutheran (1-4) has eclipsed the 200-point mark and the second straight over 220.

TLU built a lead early - sweeping through the meet and winning all six events.

Texas Lutheran would score a new program-high 34.20 in the compulsory, including a 8.45 in acro, 9.75 in pyramid, 9.60 in toss, and 6.40 in tumbling out of the highest possible value of 10. TLU outscored the Tigers in the compulsory as the visitors would earn a 24.1 total score.

After the acro event, TLU continued to maintain a narrow lead over the Tigers with Texas Lutheran earning a total score of 23.4 consisting of a 7.40 in the fifth element, 8.00 in the sixth element, and 8.00 in the seventh element. The 23.4 score is also a new program-high.

Texas Lutheran would narrowly out score the Tigers in the pyramid event, 26.85 to 25.0, with the 26.85 also setting a new program record.

TLU would carry a 84.45 - 70.90 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs continued to add to their lead after halftime, outscoring ETBU 25.55 to 22.95 in the toss event. 

Texas Lutheran would outscore East Texas Baptist in five out of six tumbling heats to win the tumbling event, 46.30 to 39.75. The tumbling event was highlighted by an 8.975 out of 9.100 score from Phoenix Cosley (Round Rock/Hendrickson) in the open pass and a 7.25 out of 7.45 in the 6-Element Pass from Mikayla Torres (La Feria/La Feria).

The Bulldogs closed out the historic meet by taking the team routine, 84.27-74.80 - setting one last program-high for the evening.

Up next, Texas Lutheran ventures to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for the first time in program history to take on Augustana University on March 26, at 6 PM CST as the Bulldogs look to continue to build upon their momentum as the 2024 regular season nears its end.
