TLU A&T Wins Tumbling Event; Falls to East Texas Baptist on the Road

MARSHALL, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Acrobatics and Tumbling continued the 2024 season with a matchup against the East Texas Baptist Tigers on the road at Ornelas Gymnasium. The Bulldogs would drop the meet to the Tigers with the Bulldogs (0-2) earning a total score of 179.380, a new program-high, and the Tigers (1-0) earning a total score of 219.845.

Texas Lutheran would score a 23.5 in the compulsory, including a 5.00 in acro, 6.80 in pyramid, 7.35 in toss, and 4.35 in tumbling out of the highest possible value of 10. ETBU outscored the Bulldogs in the compulsory, earning a 30.45 total score.

After the acro event, TLU continued to trail the Tigers with Texas Lutheran earning a total score of 18.85 consisting of a 7.00 in the fifth element, 5.25 in the sixth element, and 6.00 in the seventh element. The 18.85 score is a new program-high.
 
East Texas Baptist would narrowly out score the Bulldogs in the pyramid event, 27.20 to 25.45.

Leading into the half, TLU trailed ETBU 82.45 - 67.80. 
 
The Tigers took the toss event, with event scores being 25.15 - 21.90. Texas Lutheran earned an 8.25 in salto, 5.50 in synchronized, and 5.90 in open.

For the first time in program history, TLU won the tumbling event, outscoring ETBU 39.450 to 38.125. The tumbling event was highlighted by an 8.0 score in the duo pass from Mackenzie Holland (Colleyville/Grapevine) and Phoenix Cosley (Round Rock/Hendrickson), a 7.725 in the aerial pass from Holland, and Cosley's 8.5 score in the open pass.

After competing in the team event for the first time last week against Baylor, TLU improved their score by double-digits with a score of 50.23.
 
Up next, Texas Lutheran will have the week off before returning to Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday, February 24, at 4 PM, welcoming Mary Hardin-Baylor to Seguin for their first of two matchups this season. All streaming links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
