Bio

Kirby Standley was one of the top pitchers in Bulldog baseball history and certainly one of the top left-handers in school history.  Kirby beat Baylor University in 1994, tossing a complete game.  Then in 1996, he beat the University of Texas in a relief appearance.  Kirby’s college coach, Bill Miller, said, “Kirby was very competitive, and he also knew how to win.  When you put those two strengths together, he was tough to beat.  He made us a good team every time he went to the mound.  He wanted the ball in big games, and he always pitched very tough in big games.  He was a winner in every phase of the game – physically, mentally, and emotionally.  When he took the mound, he was Texas Lutheran Baseball.”  Kirby still holds the TLU school record for innings pitched in a season (114-1/3), and is second in wins in a single-season with 11.  Kirby passed away in May of 2005.
