In 1975 the TLC Bulldog Football Team captured its second consecutive NAIA Division II National Championship by shellacking California Lutheran College 34-8 on their home field. This was the first time an NAIA team had repeated as national champion, and when the Bulldogs arrived back in San Antonio they were enthusiastically greeted by a crowd estimated at 300 people. The road to that championship had just one bump – a 17-12 loss to Howard Payne in the game of the season. Otherwise, the Bulldogs rolled to an 11-1 record that included Texas Lutheran’s second consecutive victory over Southwest Texas State, a 21-20 victory over Midland Lutheran in the Lutheran Brotherhood Bowl, and a 32-13 win over Hanover in the NAIA DII semi-final game. Characterized by an explosive offense and a stifling defense, the Bulldogs outscored their opponents 361-113, recorded two shutouts, and held the opposition to 8 points or fewer in 7 of their 12 games. That team still holds the school mark for fewest passing yards allowed per game – just 125.
