Cross Country Set for SCAC Championships Saturday

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran cross country team is set for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships Saturday morning at the Irma Lewis Seguin Outdoor Learning Center.

The men's 8K race will begin at 9 AM followed by the women's 6K race at 10 AM. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the women's race. In addition, the top 14 runners from each side will be named to the All-SCAC team.

The Field

In the top 25 poll, the Colorado College men are ranked No. 25 while Trinity fell out of the rankings after being ranked for a majority of the season. The women for Colorado College come in ranked No. 13. Colorado College is the defending champion in both men's and women's cross country. The 2022 SCAC Championship was the fourth straight championship for the CC men and second straight for the women.

Last Time Out

The Bulldogs ended their regular season slate at the ACU Naimadu Classic (Oct. 13). In that meet, Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) led the women, finishing 15th in a field of 50 runners who finished the race and first amongst Division-III runners with a time of 24:10.62 in the 6K.

Over on the men's side, Carlos Cura (Rankin/Rankin) and Lucas Falcon (Victoria/Victoria East) finished in the top 30 overall and in the top 10 amongst Division-III runners.

Freshman Mackenzie Combs and junior Carlos Cura have paced the Bulldogs throughout the 2023 regular season and will be runners to watch on Saturday.
