TLU Sweeps Austin College in Sherman as Fowler Tallies Win No. 100

SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball tallied their 14th sweep of 2023 Saturday night with a 3-0 win over Austin Collegem 25-22, 25-23, 25-22, at Hughey Gymnasium.

Texas Lutheran head coach Phyllis Fowler picked up her 100^th career victory in the match, upping her career record to 100-81 in six seasons at Texas Lutheran.

Senior Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) recorded 11 kills to lead the Bulldogs while fellow senior Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) joined her in double figures with 10 kills and three blocks. Kallus finished with a .409 hitting percentage.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 25 assists in addition to 21 digs and five kills for her 24th double-double of the season. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) also recorded a double-double, tallying 13 digs and 13 assists while adding two service aces. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the Bulldogs with 23 digs to go with two assists and an ace.

The first set was tightly contested from beginning to end with the set being tied 22-all until TLU closed the set with a 3-0 run to take the opening set.

Texas Lutheran grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match after rallying and playing from behind for a majority of the set. Texas Lutheran trailed 22-20 before using a 5-1 run to finish.

The final set would start with a 7-7 tie early before the Bulldogs would jump out to an 18-12 lead. The 'Roos would close the gap before the Bulldogs would put the match away 25-22 to secure the sweep.

Texas Lutheran concludes their final SCAC Divisional weekend with a 12:15 PM match against Dallas on Sunday, Oct. 29. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
