Texas Lutheran Completes Regular Season Sweep of Colorado College

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The #RV Texas Lutheran volleyball team beat Colorado College Friday night at Webster Gymnasium on the campus of Trinity University in a five-set battle in their second match of the day and the weekend's SCAC Divisional. The Bulldogs won 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-27, 16-14.

With the win, Texas Lutheran completes the first regular season sweep of the Tigers in program history.

As has been the case in both matches between the Bulldogs and Tigers, the opening set was tightly contested featuring 13 ties and six lead changes. The Tigers would hold off the Bulldogs to take the first set, 25-22.

Texas Lutheran would respond by winning the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-23. Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) would lead the Bulldogs in the second set with five kills while Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) would dish out eight assists in the set alone. Respondek and Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) would have four kills each in the third set while Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) would dish out seven assists.

The Tigers would force a fifth set with a 27-25 fourth set victory.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the final frame, starting the set with a 10-6 lead. After the Tigers would force a tie at 14-all, Shavonne Respondek would seal the match with back-to-back kills to earn the Friday SCAC Divisional split and regular season series sweep over the Tigers.

Brylie Nedd led the way offensively with 15 kills while adding 15 digs and two assists for her second double-double of the season. Shavonne Respondek recorded her second triple-double of the day and fourth of the season - moving back into the top five in NCAA Division-III in the category - following a 13 kill, 29 dig, 25 assist, two aces, and one block all-around performance from the junior setter/outside hitter. Victoria Powell would tally a career-high 12 kills on a .611 hitting percentage.

Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the Bulldogs with a career-high 31 digs while Ridley Kelly (Missouri City/Elkins) recorded a career-high 18 digs. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 30 assists and 15 digs while adding two service aces.

The Bulldogs continue SCAC Divisional play Saturday evening in a 3:30 PM matchup with 11th-ranked Trinity. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
