#RV TLU Volleyball Sweeps Our Lady of the Lake

SEGUIN, Texas -- The #RV Texas Lutheran volleyball team recorded their seventh consecutive sweep, beating Our Lady of the Lake 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 in non-conference action on Wednesday night in Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (16-4, 6-1 SCAC) have won their last seven matches and nine of their last ten matches.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) led Texas Lutheran with nine kills, while hitting .269, finishing a kill shy of her third triple-double of the season. Respondek also added ten assists and a team-high 14 digs.

Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville), last week's SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) finished with eight kills each. Mixon, who hit .300 in the match, hit .300 or above for the fifth consecutive match.

Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) finished with 19 assists and three digs.

Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera Early College) led with 11 digs and two service aces. The freshman from Brownsville, Texas, now ranks second in the SCAC with 0.43 service aces per set. Ridley Kelly (Missouri City/Elkins) finished with eight digs.

The Bulldogs started slowly and trailed in the first set 12-7 before taking command of the set before battling back to tie the set 18-all. Emily Mixon and Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) finished with three kills each to lead the Bulldogs to the 25-23 first set win.

Our Lady of the Lake scored the first two points of the second set before Texas Lutheran would battle through a set that would see seven ties and three lead changes. The Bulldogs would close out the set 25-21 behind five kills and a block from Tanyse Moehrig.

The third set was tightly contested as well as the Saints did enough to hang around in the set but a five kill set from Shavonne Respondek would help the Bulldogs finish off the Saints, 25-20, to complete the sweep.

Texas Lutheran returns their attention to SCAC play as they take on Schreiner and Colorado College at 11 AM and 6 PM on the campus of Trinity University on Friday, Oct. 13. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
