Volleyball Sweeps Huston-Tillotson in Home Opener

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball swept Huston-Tillotson, 25-21, 25-12, 25-11, in the 2023 home opener for their first home win of the season on Wednesday at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (10-4, 2-1 SCAC) finished with nine aces and four blocks while holding the Rams to a -0.026 hitting percentage.

Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) led the Bulldogs with eight kills. Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) finished with six kills and two aces while Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) had three kills and two blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) finished with yet another double-double tallying 14 digs and 11 assists while adding two kills and a block.

Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the Bulldogs with 17 digs and two aces and four assists.

The Bulldogs started slow in a first set that saw eight ties and five lead changes. The Bulldogs used a 5-1 run to close the opening set for a 25-21 win.

The final two sets saw the Bulldogs dominate, leading for the remainder of the match. The Bulldogs started the set with a 12-6 lead and used a pair of 5-0 runs later in the set to cruise to a 25-12 win. Texas Lutheran held the Rams to a -0.103 hitting percentage.

TLU cruised in the final set, winning 25-11 to finish off the sweep. Seguin native Regan Schmidt (Seguin/Seguin) made her TLU home debut in front of her former Seguin Matador teammates and picked up her first career kill. Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) and Brylie Nedd closed out the match with three kills each in the final set.

The Bulldogs will travel to Houston to face St. Thomas on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 6 PM in SCAC action. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
